Auto-Organização (Self Organization), is a special performance organized in partnership with the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. It was presented by artist and head of the Art&Science Department of the Sorbonne University, Olga Kisseleva (France/Russia) and João Silveira, dancer, choreographer, and researcher (Brazil).

 

Conceived by Olga Kisseleva in collaboration with nano chemists, the performance explores alternatives to the status quo of using traditional to methods of oil production and consumption and questions the future of this technology, using the language of contemporary dance, along with an expressive interactive performance. This artistic process is also a metaphor for the movement of modern society to expand its awareness and autonomy. The self-organization of artists in the performance seeks to call forth a new form of scientific inquiry in the future as well as the construction of new theoretical models which enable the substitution of petroleum products with biodegradable products.

 

The project was recently presented in two highly symbolic cities in the world of petroleum: Moscow (Garage Contemporary Museum, 2015) and Kuwait (Modern Art Museum, 2016).

In Brazil, a country recognized internationally for its efforts in research and production of biofuels and renowned for being a potential bio-energy superpower, this provocation takes a new meaning. Implemented in cooperation with the Museum of Tomorrow an the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro the work is completely rethought and reinterpreted through workshops with artists and scientists, and with a new choreographic creation.
