Franco Fontana's Oba Oba was the most prominent Brazilian folk dance company in Brazilian history, according to the New York Times. The show has toured theaters in Europe, the Americas and Europe, including three seasons on Broadway and more than two million spectators in the United States alone.

John was a soloist with the company in the 2000 season at the Le Sporting Club theatre, Monte Carlo and 2001 at the Casino du Liban theatre, Beirut.
